This is one of the oldest coffee place in Taipei and has been around since 1950s. Situated in Ximending, the cafe exudes a retro air. I sort of have the feeling that I am transported back to the past (sorry no photos of the shop). Apart from serving coffee, this shop also sells coffee beans, various types of coffee makers and lots of traditional chinese biscuits. Hence, you know they are serious about their coffee. The owner is a friendly old guy who is always happy to give you tips on the coffee to buy.
We love the coffee here so much that we came every day! My favourite is their signature Fong Da drip iced coffee, which is served with milk and a dollop of whipped cream. The coffee is already slightly sweetened (just right for me) and very strong. Just the way I like it. Fat Man’s favourite is their Caramel Macchiato, which was very smooth and velvety. Note the ring around the rim of the cup in the photo above? That is because they drizzle the caramel syrup into the side of the cup. If you drink it without stirring (like me), you will get a strong taste of caramel in every mouthful. Absolutely lovely. Do try their range of chinese biscuits they have at their counter. We love the walnut cookie! Fong Da also serves breakfast in the mornings, and also have cakes for tea break. Perfect shelter from the summer heat in Taipei.
