Melaka: Majestic Hotel

I had a 3 week job in KL and wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city during the weekend. Seeing that Melaka is only 2.5 hours bus ride away, I booked my tickets and headed down on Saturday morning. Luckily, my colleague L was driving back home so she gave me a lift instead. We reached Melaka within 2 hours! She gave me a drive around tour, showing me the tourist spots like Jonker Walk and A’Famosa. After that, she dropped me off at my hotel. Wish that the world is filled with such nice people!

Honestly, when I first saw the hotel, I was slightly disappointed as I was expecting something much grander. Then again, I reasoned that the hotel would have been considered really grand and luxurious during the 1920s when I was first built. Stepping inside, I felt as though I was transported back in time. Pretty tiled floors and ceiling fans whirring lazily. The reception staff were quick to greet me, as well as helped me with the checking in procedures.

I love the lobby area which has plenty of space for hotel guests to rest and take a break from shopping. There were also jars of complimentary snacks in various corners of the lobby. Guests hanging out at the lobby can snack on the various cookies available while cooling off from the sweltering heat. After walking around and meeting up with Z, we came back to the hotel together to check out the room. We were escorted up to my room by one of the reception staff. She explained the facilities in the room and even gave us a pot of chinese tea. The design of the room is an elegant combination of both modern and classic tradition, with a four poster bed paired with wooden screen doors to separate the bathroom and sleeping area. The bathroom is very pretty, with checkered flooring and both a large bathtub and shower stand.

The hotel also provides turndown service, and even left a plate of nonya kueh in my room. I had that as my midnight snack after coming back from a full day tour around Melaka. Morning breakfast was semi buffet style, with a limited selection of appetizers and mains ordered from the menu given. As I wanted to have something light, I ordered the porridge which turned out okay. All in all, I had a very pleasant stay in the Majestic hotel and will not hesitate to come back again the next time I drop by Melaka.

  1. The room looks really good. The fact that they provide complimentary snacks in the lobby is awesome in my opinion. I’d like to see more hotels act this way. Thanks for the aweomse review πŸ™‚
